GPs in west Hampshire are supporting a campaign to get people walking more.
Physical activity has a positive impact on health and happiness and even small changes can make a big difference.
Sitting for long periods of time can cause premature aging and diseases such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes, dementia and depression. The only thing that can prevent this damage is being more active!
Walking is also a great opportunity to meet new people and help with your mental as well as physical health. Getting out and meeting people face to face helps with local connections, provides opportunities to get to know your neighbourhood better and to make new friends.
And it’s not all about big walks in the country, or walking lots of miles. You can start at your own pace, with a few minutes of additional walking and then increase this over time. You could walk to the shops, get off the bus a stop earlier or park the car further away from work. All these things can help increase your activity levels and will have a positive impact on your health and wellbeing.
If you’ve not been very active, you can speak to your GP or practice nurse about how you can increase the amount of walking you do every day and they can give you advice about what is appropriate for you. This is the link https://www.westhampshireccg.nhs.uk/get-hampshire-walking
NHS Health Checks Satisfaction Survey
NHS Health Checks have recently published a new patient satisfaction survey for the NHS Health Check programme with directions to the online survey on the back of the results booklet. Here is a link to the survey, for your information www.hants.gov.uk/healthcheck.
Scam Text Messages
A number of NHS Patients have received what appear to be scam text messages with a variation of the following text “you have an appointment with ******* Surgery if you no longer wish to keep this appointment please reply to 9078”.
It is highly likely that any replies sent to 4 digit numbers will incur a charge to the phone owner.
Text messages sent from on behalf of the NHS should be received as NHS NoReply as the sender details.
It is not known at this time whether the numbers obtained have been randomly generated or obtained illegitimately.
If you receive a text message similar to the above please do not respond to these. If you could let the surgery know the content of the message as well as the number it was sent from and the phone number it was sent to.
From April 2015 we are required to provide all our patients with a named GP who will have overall responsibility for your care and support. This does not prevent you from seeing any GP in the practice.
All patients have now been allocated a "Named GP" and you can find out the name of your Named GP by contacting the surgery. Alternatively, if you have repeat medication, your Named GP is shown on your prescription. In addition, your Named GP will be displayed on any letters from the surgery.
Should you have a preference for your Named GP then please contact the surgery and we will make reasonable efforts to accommodate this request.

When making an appointment you can choose to see any of the doctors at the surgery, but remember you may have to wait longer to see your doctor of choice.
You will receive an invitation letter around the month of your birthday, informing you that you are due an annual review with a Practice Nurse. The invitation letter will inform you what will be required from you for your annual review.
If you are on one or more chronic disease registers, (for example Asthma, Diabetes, etc.) all of these conditions can be reviewed at the same appointment. So it is important to inform the reception team the reason for your appointment so the appropriate length of appointment can be booked.
You will receive further letters from us if you have not had an appointment or have a future appointment for your review booked.

Friends & Family Test
Would you recommend our GP Surgery?
From 1st December 2014, if you visit our GP surgery you may be asked about whether or not you would recommend our surgery to your family and friends, if they need similar treatment or care.
Your response is anonymous and you can complete the questionnaire online from the link below.
If you are unable to answer the question, a friend or family member is welcome to respond on your behalf.
The information will give our GP practice invaluable feedback on what you think of the care and treatment you have received, which along with existing ways of gathering feedback, will help us to make improvements and improve the experience for our patients.
The Friends and Family Test has already been successfully rolled out in hospitals across the country and is proving to be valuable in obtaining patient experiences. For more information on the Friends and Family Test, please visit www.nhs.uk/friendsandfamily.
Friends & Family Test
It has come to our attention that certain patients have been informed that we can no longer dispense medication to them. This is out of the surgery’s control. However, you can put an appeal request in writing which we can pass on to NHS England.
If you live more than 1 mile (1.6km) “as the crow flies”, from the nearest Pharmacy, you can register to have your medication dispensed via the surgery.
